analysis of magazine adverts

This album is by a hip-hop artist known as Ace Hood
The typical conventions of a magazine artist would be:
  • Artist/Band name
  • Record Label
  • Album Title
  • A pursuasive or eye catching image
  • The genre of the artist represented through colours/font etc.
  • A frequentlyused image of the artist to make it memorable

Here I will analyse the magazine advert for Ace Hood and his album Ruthless, in relation to the typical conventions, I believe that all of the conventions are covered by this advert, for example:
The artist's name is very clearly marked out at the top of the page with his personalised logo.
The record Label is specified at the top as Def Jam, a popular hip-hop label
The album title is also very easily seen at the bottom of the page.
The image is very eye catching as it a memorable picture of Ace Hood
The genre of the artist is reflected through the font definately.

The font especially I think helps to make this an effective advert, as the word "Ruthless" is written in a very sort of ghetto style, which is also linking to the album title, and portrays a very animalistic and aggressive feel, which is why the font works so well.

The red background helps for the white logo of Ace Hood to stand out, the bright white writing and the use of a different font definately helps this album to stand out and catch the audience's attention and helps to draw their gaze to the more important areas of the advert such as the artists name and album title.

I believe that the genre of this artist is very easily shown threw this advert as hip-hop, as the font and image of Ace Hood is very striking, also the red colour is used to represent danger and fear which is a very important thing in hip-hop (being the top dog), and they all come togethor to make it a very effective advert.
