Developed Ideas

The lyrics in my chosen song (Alex Clare-Too Close) are talking about a relationship:

"You know I'm not one to break promises I don't want to hurt you but I need to breathe At the end of it all, you're still my best friend But there's something inside that I need to release Which way is right, which way is wrong How do I say that I need to move onYou know we're headed separate ways"
However we decided that making a video about a relationship would be far to easy and boring, therefore we decided to take the lyrics and add a whole new meaning to them. We decided to change the meaning of the lyrics to a father who is beating his teenage son, this really works with the lyrics "you're still my best friend" implying the son does not know what to do, even though his dad beats him, and so on. We can then sculpt our video on these new lyrics, as the aggressive father. Also we had the idea to incorporate a twist at the end where it shows the son looking down at a grave, however it turns out to be the son's grave as his father has killed him, following up with a news broadcast of "escaping father kills son" or something along those lines.

Research Into Platforms and Institutions

I have done extensive research into a number of record labels that may release our chosen track on, the first of which is Warner Brothers, I believe that this record label would release this single as it is a fairly comercial "Dubstep track", and Warner bros records have been known to use artists such as "knife Party" and "Pendulum" both artists are similar to Alex clare, and for this reason I believe would be good for this song.

The next platform that I looked into, is a Record label called Warp Records, my chosen record would be perfect for release on this record label as they specialise in electronic dance music, ranging from Dubstep to Drum and bass, but mainly in house. Warp features an artist very similar to Alex Clare called Rustie, who also makes dub step very similarly to Alex Clare, and therefore this would be a good label for him to be released on.

In terms of television platforming, MTV would be the channel which I believe this would be played on the most, for the reason that in modern day society "Dubstep" is taking over the world, and as MTV aims to be as on top and up to date with their sound, then they will want to get the artists which really appeal to the mass audience.

This is a link to a video by Skream and Example called shot yourself in the foot again, we find this video really helped us, in the sense that the meaning given is of one that is very emotional, about a break up, but the way that it is filmed, is very dark and adds a sense of depression, which the song is about. Ways in which it has done this are like the way that it is in black and white at some parts, this gives the impression that all of the love has gone just like the colours. Also it films two seperate happening, the man on a night out and the woman sat at home waiting, this is a huge contrast and we hope to have in our video.

This next link is a link to "Chase & status Let You Go" In the same way that the first video is filmed there are two things happening one after the other, this allows for huge contrast, this gives huge impact and allows for the emotion to be portrayed well.

Acting

As a group, we sat down and discussed the choices we could have for our main actor. Our initial choice was to chose somebody our age, who is a drama student therefore making them right for the part. But then as we developed the storyline for the video, we decided that it would be better to go with someone younger than us, this makes them seem more innocent, and imaginative. The best person to play the role was a sibling of a group member, this just meant that it was very convenient, and has also had acting lessons in the past.

The other two actors in the film are the child's mother and father, therefore we thought we may as well use the genuine mother and father, also for convenience, and there would be no embarrassment. It may also have been hard to find two adults willing to play the roles.
