Genre Research

The genre that we will be working with in our music video has fallen under two particular sub-genres, "Indie Folk" and "Folk Rock".

Indie Folk:- This genre first came into the public eye in the 1990s by indie/rock producers and bands, who were heavily influenced by the folk scene and genre, or with a country vibe to their music, from around the 50s, 60s and 70s. A few of the earliest artist included musicians such as Lou Barlow and Jeff Buckley. Inde Folk saw a huge rise in fans and coverage from the early 2000s with such bands as "Noah and the Whale"and "Mumford and Sons" who have won awards such as "Top rock album" and "British album of the year". The instruments that are mainly featured in Indie Folk, are acoustic guitars, pianos, drums, double basses and then with such influences from country music as harmonicas, mandolins, banjos and violins, this gives it a very country/folk feel.

Folk Rock:- This genre is a combination of folk music and rock music. In it's first form the genre was mainly created in the USA and in Britain around the mind 1960s. The genre was mainly created by a band called "The Byrds" The genre was infact created to be able to put the band into a genre. With heavy support from people like "Bob Dylan" who also took to the genre, with a very large "The Beatles" influence. The genre still has a large fan base to this day, with "Daughter" being one of them.
