Lighting

As a group we decided to link the lighting with the girl's emotions. When it is dark, then the girl will be feeling unhappy, or angry. For example there is a scene where the girl is watching her parent's arguing from a dimly lit corridor, and the lighting will be become brighter as she feels safer and more happy in her room.

The shot after this will be where she has made some paper birds and takes them all out into a field, where the scene will be fairly bright. This will represent how happy she is and how much better she feels alone.

Set Design

During the course of the filming, the majority was filmed in group member Fran's house, which proved difficult in some ways, as there were lots of happy family family photos around the house that would have contradicted with the message of our film, which is that the girl is quite neglected, therefore we had to hide the photos etc. Also we wanted the girl to appear as an only child, this means that she would come off more lonely.

In the room where the bedroom scene is filmed, we will remove most of the toys/games/laptop and other things which make it look like she is bought many luxuries by her parents, which adds to the idea that her family is very distant. Behind the girl on the wall there will is a photo montage already in place, we will keep that there to emphasise the girls creativity.

In the parents room, we will remove homely items like teddies and picture frames, this is because the emptier the room appears, the less emotion there is in it and the more blandness there is.

Girl's Make-up and hair

We all decided to keep the girl's make up to a minimum throughout filming the product, as we are trying to portray her as youthful and innocent, which the addition of make up would not give that impression.

With the girls we also would like that looking fairly simple, like not loads of effort has gone into it, as this indicates at her age as well, therefore maybe just have her with a ponytail throughout the music video.

Settings

Settings in Order of Appearance

Hallway

The girl crouches in the hallway as she watches her parents argue. We chose this part of the house to film her watching as it's quite dark, which represents the mood, and also seems quite secretive, which is what she's being as she watches her parents.

Kitchen

We chose the kitchen for the argument scene because in most houses the kitchen is a room that is very family orientated, as opposed to a more private room like a bedroom. Their argument taking place in a family orientated rooms shows corruption within the family and also shows their aggression, as they're not trying to hide anything by arguing in private.

Girl's Bedroom

The girl's bedroom is the first shot where we are going to see our main character looking happy, which shows that she can only be happy when she's shut herself away from things such as her parents' arguing, which is why we chose the bedroom as the setting for all of the house scenes where she actually looks happy.

Field

The field is the first scene where we see the girl's imagination come to life, as this is where the paper birds transform into real ones. We decided to do this in a field because it has a vast amount of space, portraying the freedom she feels (also represented by the birds) when she's by herself, and it also represents her vast imagination.

Parents' Bedroom

We first see the parents' bedroom when the girl runs to her parents for comfort. They're arguing when she runs in, and the fact they're arguing in here too represent the fact they're really argumentative. We also chose this setting as it made it more obvious the girl was running to her parents for comfort before they send her away, creating emotion.

Road

We chose the road outside of the house to make it more obvious she is running away from home when we see the tracking shot of the girl running. We also chose this location because the street lights make it more obvious that it's raining, which is a symbol of the girl's current emotions.

Woods

We also chose the woods to reflect the girl's emotions, when she gets lost in the woods it represents how lost the girl is in her own life. They're dark, too, which represent the darker side to her life.

Final Choice

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcpYKBTALKY

We have decided to use "Alex Clare- Too Close" as a final choice, the link leeds to an unofficial video of the song, as this means we will not unintentionally steel ideas from the official video. I have decided to not yet watch the official video for this exact reason, therefore keeping ideas fresh an not manipulated by the actual video.

Inspiration

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDmWJbN8bDo

I took inspiration from this song as it is similar to the song we are doing with certain "Dubstep" elements, however also incorporates singing, which tells a story, this aspect I like. Both "Alex Clare-Too Close" and "Skream and Example-Shot yourself in the Foot Again" have a very mellow and slightly depressive theme to them, which allows emotion to be put in through the lyrics and sound production, therefore this inspired our final choice of song.
